In June 2008, Newton announced that she was stepping down as England captain and from the England team.[5] During her time in the England national team she won two bronze medals, at the 1998 Commonwealth Games and the 1999 Netball World Championships.[3]

In domestic netball, Newton has recently played with the Mavericks in the Super League.[6]

In 2010 she was inducted into the London Youth Games Hall of Fame.
