Sarah-Jane Crawford is an English television & radio presenter, and Voice-Over artist who presents on BBC Radio 1Xtra. She has provided the voice for the Official UK Top 40 chart on MTV and currently hosts the Official Urban Chart on MTV. She hosts a weekday show on BBC Radio 1Xtra which airs live from Monday to Friday 1.00pm-4.00pm (GMT). Crawford has presented and appeared on TV shows for BBC1BBC3Channel 4 & E4Disney Channel UK & ITV2. Crawford writes columns for a number of blogs and magazines including Top of the Pops magazine

Crawford was born, and lives, in London.

Early life[edit]Edit

Born in Lambeth, south London on 15th July 1985, Crawford went to schools at Bessemer Grange, Dulwich Hamlet and Sydenham Girls' School before moving up to Cambridgeshire for her remaining years of secondary school. Before becoming a television presenter Crawford went to Kingston University and Anglia Ruskin University. She graduated with a degree in Marketing.

Crawford began her TV career on Shipwrecked 3 on Channel 4 but began presenting in 2007 when she hosted the Red Carpet and Back Stage show of the Vodafone Live Music Awards for The Hits music video channel, now known as 4music

In 2007 Crawford Joined the presenter line up for the E4 Music Zone and Freshly Squeezed for channel 4 as a result she's interviewed the likes of Robert De NiroUsherNicole Scherzingerthe Pussycat DollsNatasha Bedingfieldwill.i.amColin FarrellKate HudsonEwan McGregorJerry SeinfeldSarah Jessica Parker and Renée Zellweger for Channel 4.

On 25 July 2008, Crawford was the celebrity guest on eviction night for Big Brother's Big Mouth and for Big Brother's Little Brother, on 18 August 2008.

In October 2009 Crawford officially launched the UK MTV channel VIVA, the first channel from MTV that could be found on MTV.

In 2009 she began hosting the UK Singles Chart Top 40, Top 20 for MTV AND official Urban Chart, and she can still be heard hosting the latter on a weekly basis.

In August 2010 she began hosting a weekly show on MTV HD's channel called "The Music Alphabet" airing every Sunday at 3.30pm.

Crawford presented alongside Nigel Clarke as one of new hosts for Disney channel's show My Camp Rock 2, which premiered on 13 August 2010 at 5.35pm.

Crawford has also voiced some of the Max Factor adverts such as Second Skin foundation, Lash Extension Effect mascara and Curve Effect lip gloss.

In September 2010, Sarah-Jane appeared as one of the celebrities, alongside Jonathan Ross and Ant and Dec, on the Nintendo TV advert which was celebrating 25 years of Mario.

In 2011, and 2012 she hosted the BBC Red Button coverage on 1xtra live. In 2013 she co-hosted the BBC Red Button coverage of 1xtra Live with Charlie sloth.

In May 2012 she appeared on ITV1's This Morning as a guest news reviewer.

In July 2013 she co-hosted the BBC Three coverage of T in the Park festival alongside Greg James.

In August 2013 she co-hosted BBC Three's first Urban Classic Prom at the Royal Albert Hall alongside Charlie Sloth.

In October 2013 she co-hosted the Mobo Awards with Trevor Nelson which aired of BBC1 & BBC3

In December 2013 she appeared as one of the celebrity panelists for four episodes of IACGMOOHN, on ITV2

In January 2014 Sarah-jane appeared on the cover of The Sun's Fabulous magazine on their Future issue

Radio[edit]Edit

In October 2008, Crawford began presenting on ad hoc shows as a cover DJ on BBC Radio 1Xtra. In April 2009, she began hosting her own show which was the early weekend breakfast slot from 7.00am onBBC Radio 1Xtra[1] In 8 January 2011, Crawford began hosting the Saturday and Sunday slot from 1.00pm-4.00pm, upon which she launched BBC Radio 1Xtra's very first Book Club. From 2 April 2012 she started to present the weekday afternoon slot on BBC Radio 1Xtra.[2]

Sarah-Jane has stood in for Aled Jones on occasions to present the Surgery on BBC Radio 1 and in January she co-hosted a special show on 'Happiness' with him.

On Saturday 8 March 2014, she kick started a marathon on Radio 1 and 1xtra of one off special takeover shows for International Women's day by hosting the 7-9pm slot on radio 1.

Other presenting work[edit]Edit

On 13 July 2008, she hosted London's free annual music festival, Rise, alongside the UK's beatboxing champion, Beardyman to a believed to be record crowd, for the festival, of 101,000.

Crawford wrote column for The Wrap Up on the MTV Website called "Media Girl About town" Crawford has also written for CeleBritain's site. Crawford currently writes a fashion column for teen mag TOTP

Modelling career[edit]Edit

Crawford appeared in the April 2008 issue of FHM and in the November 2008 issue of British Vogue as part of a photo shoot and article called Top of the Box, alongside Lauren Laverne and Fiona Bruce. In early 2013, Crawford signed to Models 1, as part of their Special Bookings. In January 2014, Crawford appeared on the covers of Black Hair magazine and The Sun's Fabulous magazine

Acting career[edit]Edit

In 2011 Crawford played the part of Cheryl in British DVD film 'Fedz'.

Crawford plays the part of Lorna in British feature film 'It's Alot' which was released in UK cinemas in October 2013. The DVD will be released in February 2014.

DJing[edit]Edit

Crawford is an international DJ who performs at various exclusive night clubs in and around the world as well as for one-off private parties. She previously held a residency at the famous Bungalow 8 club in London, and currently runs a nightclub called 'Kiss the DJ' which has a Deep, progressive and tech House music policy. She recently appeared in Hong Kong as part of a DJ tour of Asia.

Charities[edit]Edit

Crawford is frequently involved in campaigns run by the EJF (Environmental Justice Foundation). In September 2012, Sarah-Jane completed the London to Brighton bike ride to raise money for them.

In June 2008, Crawford became a patron for the Teens Unite Fighting Cancer charity which is dedicated to improving the lives of young people aged between 13-24 with life limiting illnesses. Of the charity she commented: "When I found out about the charity I just knew it was something that I wanted to be involved in. I think that it's fantastic that Teens Unite do, and will continue to, support young people from the ages of 13-24, a group that can easily be misunderstood, and are often grouped in with young children or much older adults which may not be appropriate for them. Teens Unite has seen a void and got to work on it, consequently taking care of young people's needs during their toughest times." The charity was founded by fashion designer Karen Millen OBE.

Crawford also supports the National Autistic Society, and in September 2008 took part in the adidas Women's Challenge to help raise funds for the charity, and the Fibromyalgia Association UK, which raises awareness about Fibromyalgia in Britain.
