Born on 14th January 1985 in an army family, Tara Wheeler had her schooling from Woodbridge, Massachusetts and from Ft.Belvoir. She graduated from Penn State with a degree in journalism in 2006


Tara Wheeler was also dabbled with beauty pageants. In 2008 she competed in Miss.Arlington and qualified for the next level. In the following beauty pageant she was crowned as Miss Virginia and became a finalist in Miss America 2009.Unfortunately she failed to win the title then.[1] Tara is an avid ice hockey player. She was the goalie of Penn State Nittany Lions women's ice hockey team during her college days .[2] In 2002, she also tried to be a part of U.S. women’s Olympic Hockey team but failed to make it. With her degree in journalism, she is currently working as a television reporter for WVAW-LD.She was also a former US Air Force cadet.


Tara is also noted for her philanthropic works. She was the brand ambassador of various charity groups including Children's Miracle Network and worked a lot for cancer awareness programs.[3] In September 2009,while holding the beauty title,she shaved her head in a fund raiser event for childhood cancer research in association with St.Baldricks.[4] She is also a big supporter of the American Special Hockey Association, which organizes programs for people with developmental disabilities, and the USA Warriors Ice Hockey program, for injured military veterans.
